Marijuana and its components have been used in a variety of contexts for thousands of years, for example, as a medicine for a variety of conditions. More recently, it has become even more widely used in clinical settings for its potential medicinal properties. Currently, 23 states and the District of Columbia allow the use of medicinal marijuana, with more to potentially follow.1
