THERAPEUTIC POTENTIAL OF CANNABIS

Medical marijuana use is controversial in the American society. While the states move to legalize marijuana for medical or recreational use, research is needed to elucidate the adverse effects and potential therapeutic benefits of marijuana therapy. This review provides the current information on potential indications, pharmacology, toxicity, and contraindications for medical cannabis. Understanding of the potential uses of cannabinoids in various medical conditions will benefit the patients and healthcare providers. Legalization of marijuana use in 21 states of the US and the district of Columbia has called attention for health care providers. KEYWORDS: Marijuana, cannabinoids, THC, dronabinol.
